Syracuse man making homemade fireworks causes explosion at Vinette Towers: About 40 people were displaced by an explosion on Saturday evening in a 12-storey building caused by a man making homemade fireworks, according to firefighters and police. The blast was so loud it toppled the wall of an apartment in Vinette Towers, police said. Scott Dimond, 38, of Syracuse, was charged Sunday; he and another person were hospitalized.
